I couldn’t tell you enough on how much of an impact this album and Lupe had on me at this time of my life. Im a die hard for this one. This album dropped around peak lil Wayne and he was not letting up with his domination. In came this nerdy, street smart, witty, verbal assassin of a kid named Lupe fiasco. My big bro and I were fans of Lu long before. His wave had been moving through the Midwest with his tapes like “chi-town guevera” and his Fahrenheit series. He was rapping on top of tracks that at that time in hip hop weren’t deemed cool. He was quirky. Gorillaz instrumentals, Gnarles Barkley joints (more about them some other time), NERD beats. He was doing him and I guess that’s what I would thank Lupe the most for. For being himself. Rapping like what sounded like his heart on the line and being supreme with it. I damn near missed the anniversary of this but I had to say something. Go listen to the WHOLE RECORD. you won’t be disappointed.
